One Month Update

I can’t believe it’s been over a month since I brought Odyss home! Thank you so much for your supportive comments on our last post. I had planned to tell you more of our story this last month but life happens and adulting is hard, lol.

Odyss has adjusted really well and is coming out of his shell more and more every day. His favorite thing is our walks when I get home from work every evening. He waits at the door spinning in circles. He also jumps A LOT! We might notice he is missing something but don’t tell him that.

We even did a three mile hike Memorial Day weekend!

So far he’s learned hand singles for sit and lay and we’re working on recall. He just gets so excited and happy and has a hard time paying attention.  He had to get a new collar because he loves rolling in cow patties in the pasture.

The meek and mild rescue I brought home is now a very vibrant and joyful dog.

He will played tug for short bits of time but has no real interest in toys. I’m thinking about getting him involved in agility to help him burn off some of his energy and use his brain. Has anyone else had success with a tripawd and agility?

Thanks for stopping by and check out his Instagram Odyss.tripawd for more pictures!

  1. What a happy dog! And yes, there are many tripawds who do agility training, and at least recent award winner (Novak) for scent detection.

A d that first collar with yiur name on it….sooooo cute! 🙂 🙂 But of course we understand that rolling in cow patties takes precedence over keeping a collar clean!!

  3. What a hoppy boy! I’m so glad things are going well.

As Christine mentioned, yes many Tripawds compete in non-impact games that are similar to agility but not as stressful on the joints or bones. K9 Nosework, obedience rallies and so on. Here’s a good blog to inspire you:

One word of caution: three miles is a lonnnnng walk for any Tripawd but especially a front-leg one. Sure he can do it now because he’s young, but a year or three from now he may have lots of arthritis and joint problems from it. I really encourage you to visit a certified rehab therapist to discuss the right types of activity for him (and Tripawds Foundation may even pay for that first visit too, that’s how much faith we put in rehab for all Tripawds. Also be sure to read our e-book, Loving Life on Three Legs, which goes into more detail about exercise and fitness.

We are always around the Forums for questions so please bark if you have any OK?
